Assure Model and its steps
Edi Sukmara
The
teacher should consider the ASSURE model while applying instructional media in
the classroom.
a. Analyze learners.
In
this step, teachers should know the characteristics, needs, and level of
proficiency (beginner, intermediate, or advanced) of the students. English
teacher can carry out a simple observation in doing so such as by doing
pre-test, questionnaire, or interview.
b. State objectives.
After
knowing the characteristics of the learners, the teacher should state the
teaching objectives including the focus of language skills such as listening,
speaking, reading and writing.
c. Select methods, media and materials.
English
teacher should select methods, media and materials that are appropriate for his
teaching context.
d. Utilize media and materials.
After
selecting the methods, media and materials, it is the turn for the teacher to utilize
them in the teaching learning process.
e. Require learner participation.
The
media use in teaching learning processes will achieve its ultimate goal unless
the teacher requires the learner participation. The media should trigger all
learners get involved actively during the teaching-learning process.
f. Evaluate and revise.
To make the use
of teaching media more effective, the teacher should evaluate the teaching
processes and revise it in the sake of the betterment in the later future.
