One of the techniques to improve the students' ability is using multimedia in the process of teaching and learning in the classrooms. Joshi (2012: 34) emphasized that EFL students must become proficient in accessing and using electronic resources because educational technology is expected to become an integral part of the curriculum. Traditionally, the common situation of a classroom is where the teachers stand in front of the students, giving explanations, informing, and instructing. Chalks and board markers are the usual media the teachers use to write something on the board. These kinds of technique need to be modified regarding with the development of the current technology. The use of multimedia in classroom cannot be denied anymore. It gives the teachers more opportunity to get the students involve in the class activity in happier and more enjoyable atmosphere during the course. E-Learning or technology in learning has become a buzz in the education industry and today it caters to the needs of modern-day learners.
According to Jossiane in Halimatou and Yang (2014: 2063), the word "technique" means all systematic processes based on scientific knowledge and employed in production. Technique signifies manners, ways, and capabilities involved in implementing systematic technical knowledge. It is a method or style of implementing systematic technological knowledge. It includes cultural behaviors as well as human interactions with tools and products associated with human arts, crafts, and skills. (Isman, 2012: 209). Instructional techniques are educational activities which are shaped by instructional context like learning outcomes, content, and properties of a target group (Kalelioğlu and Gülbahar, 2014: 248).
Nowadays, teachers become more creative in using different techniques like movie-clippings, advertisements, commentaries, dramatics and more. Not only it makes the class much more interesting than the old book style teaching but also keeps the students attentive during the class. Educational technologies are used in instructional technique, which depends on how teacher conceives, plans and runs his teaching activities (theory of learning). Considering the need of the teaching hour, the teachers organize a number of conferences and seminars in order to keep themselves updated about upcoming ideologies in the language teaching technique and technology, keeping themselves professionally updated and equipped with the current trends. Educators are increasingly take the benefits of technology in all aspects. They can share their material, curricula, lesson plan or even work assignments for the students.
In the end, selected instructional techniques can enhance students’ critical thinking skills and critical thinking dispositions. The use of modern technique by means of the audiovisual media can make the teaching livelier, more concrete and richer in meaning.
